CHICAGO — After six years in the West Loop, Urbanbelly and BellyQ are closing.

BellyQ will close Tuesday and Urbanbelly will close on Dec. 31. The building that houses the two restaurants, 1400 W. Randolph St., is being sold and redeveloped, according to  Cornerstone Restaurant Group.

The Wicker Park Urbanbelly at 1542 N. Damen Ave. will remain open, and the restaurant group is looking for other locations where it can open Urbanbelly restaurants.

“The Belly brand, which is so near to my heart, has existed for 10 years and will flourish for many more decades as we reinvent ourselves and reinvest in the brand,” chef Bill Kim said in a news release. “I’m excited for the future.”

Private events are still being booked and honored at the BellyQ and Urbanbelly through March 2019, Kim wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday.

“Your support has meant everything to us,” Kim said.

Cornerstone offered to relocate the restaurants’ staff to open positions at other restaurants it owns, according to the news release.

“We are so grateful for the support of the West Loop community, our staff and our guests over the past 21 years,” said Cornerstone President Josh Zadikoff in the news release. “As difficult as it is to say goodbye, now is the opportune time to transition the building given the current real estate climate in the West Loop.”
