CHICAGO — A convicted sex offender has been charged with breaking into a Wicker Park home and stabbing a woman, officials said.
The attacked happened in the spring, but Lester Johnson, 53, of suburban Broadview, wasn’t arrested and charged until Thursday, according to a Chicago Police news release.
At 12:54 a.m. May 28, Johnson forced his way into a home in the 1300 block of North Bell Avenue and, once inside, stabbed a 24-year-old woman in her leg, police said. The woman was taken to St. Mary Hospital, where police said her condition stabilized.
Johnson was arrested Thursday in the 2500 block of South 14th Street in Broadview after being identified as the attacker, police said.
Johnson has been charged with home invasion causing injury, failing to report a change of address or employer, violating an order of protection and phone harassment, police said. He was scheduled to appear in Bond Court on Friday.
Johnson is listed on the Illinois Sex Offender registry for aggravated criminal sexual assault.
