Here are a few ideas for things to do in Wicker Park and Bucktown this weekend.
Boo-Palooza. The community-produced and volunteer-run Halloween festival in Wicker Park’s namesake park known as Boo-Palooza will include costume parades (11:30 a.m. for children, families and adults and 12:30 p.m. for dogs with owners), costume contests for humans and dogs, a corn maze, apple bobbing, pumpkin patch, face painting, a Mr. Dave concert and more festivities. Free Yoga, Cycling. Divvy is celebrating the end of Women’s Bike Month with a Ride & Rally. Attendees are encouraged to bring a yoga mat for pre-ride yoga, and then the group will cycle along The 606. Free, RSVP encouraged. From 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, begins in Walsh Park, 1722 N. Ashland Ave.
Calling All Whiskey Fans. Emporium Arcade Bar in Wicker Park is hosting a Midwest Mash Fest, featuring whiskey from five distilleries and “vendors inspired by the cultural of whiskey” such as makers of hot sauce and stay-cold ice cube. Tickets, $25-35, can be bought online and include 6 whiskey tasting tickets, 3 bourbon barrel aged beer tasting tickets and 20 game tokens. From 2 – 7 p.m. Saturday, 1366 N. Milwaukee Ave.
Free Flower Bouquets. A DIY bouquet pop-up offering free flowers at the forthcoming Machine (in the old Taus Authentic) will be set up on the patio in front of the restaurant. From noon Saturday until supplies last, 1846 W. Division St.
Halloween Pet Portraits. Kriser’s will host pet portraits on Saturday by Fetch Photo. The $35 sitting fee include a photo session with a one-of-a-kind Halloween-themed set, a 5×7 printed color photo and the option to order prints/merchandise/digital downloads online after the session. Book times online (five remaining between 12:05 p.m.- 1:10 p.m Saturday), at 1658 N. Milwaukee Ave.
Boogie The Night Away At Ina Mae. Drink $5 absinthe-based Sazeracs, a favorite New Orleans drink, while dancing to live DJs at the NOLA-inspired Ina Mae Tavern. There will also be free tarot card readings. Costumes encouraged. Free, starts at 10 p.m. Saturday, 1415 N. Wood St.
Bars Dressing Up. Many bars will be dressed up as other bars or concepts over the almost-Halloween weekend. Dove’s Luncheonette, a diner at 1545 N. Damen Ave., will become a night bar for its “Dove’s After Dark” Halloween edition on Friday, starting at 10:30 p.m., while all weekend long, Links at 1559 N. Milwaukee Ave. will transform into the prison-inspired “Clinks: Dept. of Corrections.”
Final Farmers Market. This Sunday will be the Wicker Park Farmers Market’s LAST Sunday in the park before the outdoor season ends (the market will move indoors in December). Stock up on produce while enjoying specialty items, like bagels, crepes, samosas, coffee and hummus. Free. From 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, 1425 N. Damen Ave.
