CHICAGO — Five people were arrested after carjacking a woman’s Lexus early Thursday in Edgewater, police said.

At 12:02 a.m., the 47-year-old woman was parking her car in the 5800 block of North Winthrop Avenue when a group of five to seven people walked up to her, she said. At least one of them pointed a gun at the woman and told her to get out of the car, then they took her car keys from her hand.

The robbers got into the woman’s car and drove away, police said. The woman wasn’t injured.

Officers working nearby saw the car and began to follow it while calling for backup, police said. The people in the car got out in the 5500 block of South Lake Shore Drive and tried to run away.

Officers arrested five people and found the Lexus and a gun, police said. Charges were pending.
