IRVING PARK — St. Viator Elementary School is raising money to upgrade its playground by hosting a haunted house this month.

“Back in the 1980s St. Viator was known for its haunted house,” said Clara Guerrero, one of the co-organizers of the Stairway to Insanity haunted house at the school. “Then it went away for a long time but about five years ago we brought it back.”

Stairway to Insanity is set up on the second floor of the school at 3644 N. Kedvale Ave. Parents built out a series of walls to create a creepy maze people have to navigate.

“Most of the people who work the haunted house are parents, kids and alumni from St. Viator along with friends of friends,” Guerrero said. “Tickets are $10 and the proceeds are going to the school so we can get an updated playground.”

The haunted house opens this Friday and runs every Friday and Saturday through Oct. 27.

“We’ve had some haunted house people come through and they’ve given it great reviews,” Guerrero said.
