ALBANY PARK — A neighbor called police after hearing gunfire on a residential street near the border of North Mayfair and Albany Park last Friday morning.
Carl Gilbertsen, who lives in the 5000 block of North Kedvale Avenue, was sitting in his living room last Friday when he was surprised by the sound of gunfire at about 11:40 a.m.
“I was sitting on my couch when it happened with a view of the street and only saw one car along [the street] with two other people who where there,” Gilbertsen said. “The last few days I’ve gone and looked for bullet holes around our block and haven’t seen any.”
The shooting happened in a residential area with single-family homes that’s a few blocks away from John M. Palmer Elementary School at 5051 N. Kenneth Ave.
Police spokesperson Jose Jara said no one was injured and after the gunfire was reported to 911, responding officers found a few gun shells at the scene.
“No offenders in custody,” Jara said.
After the shooting, police took statements from neighbors while putting evidence markers on the shells they found on the street, Gilbertsen said.
