Six Candidates In Crowded 20th Ward Race To Take Questions From Neighbors During Thursday Forum

Longstanding incumbent Ald. Willie Cochran, who faces bribery and fraud charges, announced last year that he would not seek a fourth term.

WASHINGTON PARK — At least six candidates running to replace longtime Ald. Willie Cochran (20th) are participating in a forum Thursday. 

A 20th Ward candidates forum is scheduled from 4-6 p.m Thursday at the K.L.E.O. Community Center, 119 E. Garfield Blvd.

Candidates scheduled to participate in the forum include Anthony Driver, Nicole J. Johnson, Denard Newell, Andre Smith, Jeanette Taylorand Quandra Speights.

Candidates Kevin Bailey and Maya Hodari were invited but are not participating in the forum, organizers said. Candidates Jennifer Maddox and Francis Frye are not on the list of participants for Thursday night’s event.

Longstanding incumbent Ald. Willie Cochran announced last year that he would not seek a fourth term. According to the Sun-Times, Cochran, who has been indicted by federal prosecutors for bribery, fraud, extortion, may seek a plea deal after initially entering a plea of not guilty.  

The 20th Ward covers portions of Englewood, Washington Park, Back of the Yards and Canaryville.
