Pumpkin Patches, Haunted Houses And More Halloween Fun Coming To South Side Parks This October

CHICAGO — Trying to pack as much Halloween into October as possible? The Chicago Park District is, too.

Here’s a roundup of scary (and kid-friendly) movies, pumpkin patches, haunted houses, parties and more happening in neighborhoods throughout the South Side this month. 

Pumpkin Patches


Rainey Park, 4350 W. 79th St.

Check out the pumpkin patch and stay for the pony rides, games, arts and crafts, games, and more. Admission is free.

Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

South Deering

Veterans’ Memorial Park, 2820 E. 98th St. 

Presented by the Veteran’s Memorial Park Advisory Council this pumpkin patch includes games, pony rides, face painting, treats, arts and crafts, and more. Fee per ticket is $2 or $8 for a wristband.

Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

West Pullman

Ada Park, 11250 S. Ada St. 

Aside from their pumpkin patch, Ada Park is hosting hayrides, face painting, pictures, treats and more will be available. Fee per activity ($1 – $3).

Halloween Parties

Family dodgeball alert just for two dollars! Also enjoy a bounce house, crafts, games, and more.

Garfield Ridge

Vittum Park, 5010 W. 50th St. 

Costume contest, arts and crafts, treats, and more await at Vittum Park. Youth ages one to two years old receive free admission.

Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

West Pullman

West Pullman Park, 401 W. 123rd St. 

Costume contest, face painting, games, dancing, and more all for free admission.

Mandrake Park, 3858 S. Cottage Grove 

A free community party for youth ages 2-15 is schedule. Youth are encouraged to wear costumes.

Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018 from 3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.


Ellis Park, 3520 S. Cottage Grove Ave. 

The Chicago Blues Museum presents “We Bring you Bronzeville,” a celebration of South Side musical heritage and cultural legacy that celebrate the contributions from musicians, artists, and citizens from the neighborhood as part of a Halloween celebration.

Haunted Houses

Grand Boulevard

Taylor Park, 39 W. 47th St.

Sponsored by the Park Advisory Council and Taylor Park Teen Club, a scary haunted house is open to the public for the cost of $3. Children under 12-years-old should be accompanied by an adult.

North Kenwood

Kennicott Park, 4434 S. Lake Park Ave.

Games, candy, giveaways, and more along with a visit to the haunted house. Admission is free.
