SOUTH LOOP — Animal lovers can get their pets blessed this weekend ahead of St. Francis’ feast day.
Reverends from Grace Episcopal Church and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church are teaming up for the event.
Chicagoans will be able to bring their animals to Printers Row Park for a blessing from one of the religious leaders, with the event recognizing “the emotional and often spiritual attachment” Chicagoans have with their pets, according to the churches.
Attendees will be able to meet with volunteers from Friends of Petraits Rescue. The volunteers will have animals in need of permanent and foster homes, and attendees will be able to learn how to support the no-kill shelter and adopt its animals.
After the blessing, there will be a coffee hour with treats for humans and pets.
The free event is being held a week before the feast day of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals.
The blessings begin 10 a.m. Sunday at Printers Row Park near Grace Church, 637 S. Dearborn St.
