CHICAGO — Two teens were fatally shot outside the Sox-35th Street Red Line station Thursday afternoon in Bronzeville.

At 3 p.m. Thursday, the boys, 16 and 17, got into an argument with another group of boys near the Youth Connection Charter School at 10 W. 35th St., Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said during a news conference, according to the Sun-Times. The fatal shooting happened just blocks from Chicago Police Headquarters.

The victims tried to run away down 35th Street but the other group of boys chased them and fired shots in the 3500 block of South LaSalle Street, according to the Sun-Times. Three people shot at the boys, police said, with the gunfire erupting outside the Sox-35th Street Red Line Station.

The 17-year-old was hit in his face, chest and abdomen and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition while the 16-year-old was hit and taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

The teens were later pronounced dead.

The gunmen got into a beige Ford Explorer and went north on LaSalle Street and east on 31st Street, police said. No one was in custody.
