Film Festival To Feature 70+ Movies From South Asian Stars, Directors This Weekend

South Asian stars and directors will participate in Q&As during the four-day festival.

CHICAGO — A four-day festival celebrating South Asian films kicks off Thursday night.

The Chicago South Asian Film Festival will feature more than 70 movies and documentaries covering everything from kids trying to win a spelling bee to the violence faced by immigrants. South Asian directors and actors will make appearances and speak during the festival, and several movies will make their premieres.

The festival starts Thursday with several screenings and it continues Friday with more movies and a red carpet event. Saturday and Sunday will have more screenings, with an awards ceremony Sunday night.

The festival runs Thursday to Sunday with screenings spread throughout three theaters: Showplace Icon, 1011 S. Delano Court; Columbia College Theater, 1104 S. Wabash Ave.; and Oakbrook AMC, 300 Oakbrook Center in suburban Oakbrook.
