CHICAGO — A 6-month-old baby and a 13-year-old girl were among four people shot Wednesday night in the South Loop.
At 9:07 p.m., the five victims were inside a car in the first block of West Cermak Road when a man in a ski mask got out of a car, police said. The man walked up to the victims’ car and fired shots.
The 6-month-old boy was hit twice in his abdomen and the other wounded child, a 13-year-old girl, was shot in her shoulder. The two were taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital, where they were listed as “critical but stable,” police said.
A 37-year-old woman was shot in her knee and was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where her condition was not available but she was listed as “stable,” police said. A 27-year-old man’s arm was grazed by a bullet. He refused treatment at the scene of the shooting and was in good condition.
A 15-year-old girl who was also in the car was not wounded.
After the shooting, the gunman got back into his car and drove off, possibly going south on State Street, police said.
The 27-year-old man was possibly the target of the attack, a police source said, and he was not cooperative with investigators.
No one was in custody.
