PORTAGE PARK — Police say a woman was able to fight off a man groping and trying to overpower her Monday night.

The attack happened on a stretch of Addison near the border of the Portage Park and Irving Park neighborhoods. The area is mostly comprised of single family homes as well as condo and apartment buildings.

Around 7:30 p.m. a woman was walking alone in the 4700 block of West Addison Street when she noticed a man dressed in a white shirt and blue shorts with checkered stripes following her, police say.

The man got closer to the woman and began speaking to her in Spanish before he began to inappropriately touch her. He then tried and move her to another location by force.

“The victim was able to fight the offender off, causing her minor injury,” police said in an alert Tuesday night.

After the woman broke free of the man he fled in an unknown direction. Police say the man stood around five foot five and weighed about 135 pounds.

Anyone with information regarding this attack can reach Area North detectives at 312-744-8261.
