ALBANY PARK — A teen is in stable condition after being shot while riding his bicycle on Saturday night.
The 16-year-old boy was riding his bicycle in the 3600 block of West Lawrence Avenue at about 8:50 p.m. Saturday when he was reportedly confronted by two men, according to Officer Ana Pacheco, a police spokesperson.
During the confrontation, one of the men asked the teen if he was a member of a gang and then told the other man present to shoot the teen as he tried to flee the scene, Pacheco said.
The teen was shot in the “left hip and left buttock area” and first responders transported him to St. Francis Hospital. On Monday, Pacheco said the teen was in stable condition.
The area where the teen was shot is a busy commercial strip with a few restaurants and a liquor store that was open at the time of the shooting. No other injuries were reported.
No one is in custody, police said. Area North detectives are investigating.
