CHICAGO — Robbers are using sales apps OfferUp and LetGo to lure victims to West Woodlawn.
At least four times since the end of August, robbers used the apps — which help people buy from and sell items to others nearby — to bring people to the 600 block of East Marquette Road, where two to three people robbed the victims, according to a Chicago Police community alert.
The robberies occurred:
• 1:30 p.m. Aug. 22
• Between 11 a.m. and noon Aug. 31
• 11:18 p.m. Sept. 2
• 4:30 p.m. Monday
The robbers were described as two to three black teens or men who were 16-28 years old, 5-foot-7 to 6-foot-6 and 150-205 pounds, police said. One robber was described as having dreadlocks in three of the incidents.
Anyone with information about the robberies was asked to call police at 312-747-8380.
