DOWNTOWN — Two men have been charged with robbing a man on the Red Line early Thursday.
At 2:26 a.m., the 23-year-old victim was riding a northbound train and was near the Loop’s underground Lake Street stop when five men — including Sherwan Williams and Corey Dailey, both 21 — grabbed him, police said. The men stole his money and personal items and got off the train.
At 2:35 a.m., Williams and Dailey passed by officers at the scene, and the victim and a CTA attendant identified them as the thieves, police said. Officers chased the men and then arrested them.
The other three men involved in the robbery left before then, police said.
Officers searched Dailey and found what they thought was ecstasy and marijuana, police said. They also learned Williams was wanted on two warrants that were unrelated to the robbery.
Williams, of suburban Harvey, has been charged with robbery, police said. Dailey, of the 12900 block of South Green Street, was charged with robbery, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
