PILSEN — An inaugural walkathon to benefit first-generation college students is set for Friday evening in Pilsen.
The Resurrection Project’s Associate Broad will host the first annual Noche de Alebrijes 3k walkathon starting at 5 p.m. Friday.
The family-friendly event hosted at La Casa, 1815 S. Paulina St., will include live entertainment, glow-in-the-dark face paint and more fun.
Proceeds will go toward housing scholarships for La Casa college students.
La Casa is a college dorm and resource center that provides affordable housing, support services and community workshops for low-income students. The organization houses college students from different universities, according to the organization’s website.
“La Casa offers the holistic experience of affordable on-campus living and support services,” Magaly Arteaga, chair of the Resurrection Project’s Associates Board, said in a statement.
“As someone who was born and raised in Pilsen, I am happy to see programs like La Casa providing youth in the community the resources they need to succeed,” Arteaga added.
