CHATHAM — On the hunt for some outdoor fun this Labor Day weekend?
From a movie in the park to an African Festival of the Arts with musical guests like Seun Kuti and Twista, check out these five events on the city’s South Side this weekend.
African Festival of the Arts At Washington Park
The 29th annual fest, one of the longest and largest of its kind in the Midwest, kicks off at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31 in Washington Park, 5100 S. Cottage Grove Ave. The fest runs from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday-Monday.
Grammy-nominated Chicago rapper Twista and Grammy-nominated singer Keyshia Cole are headlining on Saturday, Sept. 1; Seun Kuti is headlining on Sunday, Sept. 2; and Grammy-Award-winning singer Shaggy is headlining on Monday, Sept. 3. The fest will also feature food from international vendors and a massive international marketplace.
Pre-sale adult tickets are for sale online for $15 per day and will be $20 per day at the gate. Senior tickets are $10 per day and tickets for children are $5 (children under 5 are free).
A weekend pass for all four days is available for $40 and family passes are also for sale.
The African Festival of the Arts is the flagship event of the African International House, an organization that strives to educate all people on individual and collective contributions from people hailing from the continent of Africa.

Go Run Chicago At Big Marsh
In partnership with the Chicago Area Runners Association, the Park District will host “Go Run,” a neighborhood run that aims to encourage an active lifestyle through running and volunteerism Saturday.
The run will kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday at Big Marsh, 11555 S. Stony Island Ave. in Chatham.
The event is free.
Movies In The Park At Tuley Park
Families and friends are invited to bring their blankets and lawn chairs for an outdoor showing of “Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle” at Tuley Park Sunday night.
The Park District will show the PG-13-rated movie from 8-10 p.m. Sunday in the park, 501 E. 90th Place in Chatham.
The event is free.
Community Clean-Up Day At Workday at 63rd St. Beach
The Shedd Aquarium will host a restoration and clean-up day through the Great Lakes Action Days program at 63rd Street Beach.
The clean-up day will be held from 10-1 p.m. Friday at 63rd Street Beach, 6301 S. Lake Shore Drive.

DJ Selah Say & Make Weekdays Great? At Burroughs Beach
A beach pop-up with DJ Selah Say and Make Weekdays Great? will bring local art to the park as part of the Park District’s Inferno program Saturday.
The mobile art pop-up will be from 3-8 p.m. Saturday at Margaret T. Burroughs Beach, 3100 S. Lake Shore Drive in Bronzeville.
The event is free.
