IRVING PARK — Police sent out two alerts on Tuesday after a series of garage burglaries were reported in the Irving Park and Jefferson Park neighborhoods.
In the Irving Park burglaries, the garage was entered through its side door so the main overhead door could be opened. Only a bicycle was reported stolen. The rest of the burglaries reported no property stolen from the garage.
The five Irving Park burglaries happened on Aug. 25, between 1:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. in the:
- 3600 block of North Springfield Avenue
- 3600 block of North Springfield Avenue
- 3600 block of North Springfield Avenue
- 3700 block of North Harding Avenue
- 3600 block of North Springfield Avenue
In a separate alert sent out Tuesday, police said Jefferson Park burglaries garages were broken into by forcibly kicking and prying open their side doors or back windows.
In at least one of the burglaries, the garage was entered via its unlocked side door. The items reported stolen from these garages includes construction tools, bicycles and lawnmowers.
These five burglaries happened in the:
- 5600 block of West Grover Street on Aug. 12, between 3:45 a.m. and 4:15 a.m.
- 5200 block of North Leamington Avenue, between Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. and Aug. 23 at 8 a.m.
- 5200 block of North Leamington Avenue, between Aug. 22 at 10:30 p.m. and Aug. 23 at 6:30 a.m.
- 7100 block of North Mason Avenue on Aug. 23 at 6:30 a.m.
- 4200 block of N. Parkside Avenue on Aug. 24 at 7:15 a.m.
Police recommend making sure all doors and windows of a home’s garage are locked and are asking residents to pay special attention to anyone loitering in the area.
