WICKER PARK — A 28-year-old man using crutches was beaten by four men early Friday just minutes after he walked out of a hospital in Wicker Park, police said.

The man got into an argument with four other men around 2:08 a.m. in the 2200 block of West Division Street, according to Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

It’s unknown what the argument was about. Amezaga said that the victim did not know the men who attacked him.

A police source told Block Club that the victim was leaving St. Mary’s hospital on crutches when the men began arguing with him. During the argument, the men began beating the victim with his own crutches.

The crutches were left at the scene and were being processed as evidence by police. The victim apparently refused medical attention, the police source said.

Several hours after the attack, a westbound lane of traffic in front of the hospital was still blocked off by police, a hospital visitor said.

No one is in custody. The victim only described one of the four attackers, saying he was black with a dark complexion and was wearing a multicolored shirt with cargo pants and Timberland boots, according to police.
