Bullet Goes Through West Woodlawn Window, Wounding Man Inside His Home

The man was seriously wounded in the shooting.

A shooting in the 6100 block of South Vernon Avenue left a man seriously wounded, police said.

WOODLAWN — A 34-year-old man was shot and wounded when a bullet went through his window Thursday night in West Woodlawn.

At 10:34 p.m., the man was inside his home in the 6100 block of South Vernon Avenue when someone outside fired a shot, police said. The bullet went through the man’s window and hit him in his back.

The man was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was in serious condition, police said.

It’s not known who the intended target of the shooting was, police said.

No one was in custody.

Last week, a 44-year-old woman was sitting on her couch in Auburn Gresham when someone shot through her front door and killed her. Just hours later, an 80-year-old woman was sleeping in her bedroom in West Pullman when someone outside fired shots that went through her home, hitting her in her head and seriously wounding her.
