WOODLAWN — Woodlawn residents can tackle 1.5-mile, 2-5 mile and 3.5-mile routes Saturday at this year’s 2nd annual 1Woodlawn “Walk, Balk, Run” event.
The family-focused event will start and end at the AKArama Foundation, 6220 S. Ingleside Ave. Registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by a 30-minute warm-up period leading up to the 10 a.m. event kick off.
Various route lengths are offered based on the exercise — walkers will complete a 1.5-mile course, while runners take on 2.5 miles and bikers follow a 3.5-mile path.
Hosted in partnership with local organizations including the Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago, participation is free and attendees can register for the event online or on the day of the event. Food and snacks will be provided afterwards.
The AKArama Foundation will also host its annual Community Health and Wellness Fair from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., where vision and health screenings, wellness workshops, free haircuts and school physicals will be offered.
In the same space, Chicago Underground will throw its 6th annual Back to School Jam, providing free school supplies, youth-aimed activities, music and entertainment throughout the day.
