LOGAN SQUARE — Logan Square Food Truck Social returns to the neighborhood this weekend for the third year in a row — this time, with fewer trucks and more live music.
The three-day fest, a partnership with Empty Bottle Presents, kicks off Friday evening along Humboldt Boulevard between Armitage Avenue and The 606. The hours are Friday 5-10 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m.-10 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
Roughly 15 food trucks and local restaurants are slated to participate, which is down from last year and the previous year, when 24 and 26 trucks participated, respectively.
This year’s food lineup includes 5411 Empanadas, Beavers Coffee & Donuts, Big Wang’s Food Truck, Carnivale Cevapcici, Cheesie’s Truck, Churro Factory, Dia De Los Tamales, Estrella Negra, Harold’s Chicken, Island Noodles Chicago, Loop Juice, Lucy’s, Pierogi Wagon, Piko Street Kitchen, The Happy Lobster, Whadda Jerk and Yum Dum.
Fest-goers can expect more live music at this year’s event compared to previous years.
“The neighborhood has especially embraced the live music, so we’ve put more emphasis into programming the stages this year,” organizer Kara Salgado said in a news release.
Local artists and vendors will also be there, as will folks from the Shedd Aquarium, who are putting on a pop-up gallery with live art making.
Salgado said she made changes to the layout this year; she switched the stages and moved the vendors out of the grass. Those adjustments, she said, allowed for less room for food trucks, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
“We want the food vendors to do well, and we maybe had a few too many last year,” she said.
Attendees are asked to make a $5 donation, but $20 will get you a sampler ticket, which includes six sample-sized portions from the food trucks and local restaurants.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Illinois Food Truck and Trailer Owners Association, La Casa Norte, Northwest Food Partners Network and Friends of Brentano School.
