FULTON MARKET — Thursday’s “Night Market on Prairie” will bring 20 local makers of jewelry, apparel and other goods to Ace Hotel’s rooftop in an eclectic Moroccan-style bazaar anchored by the Nesci Dome.
The Nesci Dome, a public art piece by Jonathan Nesci that pays homage to the playground-staple jungle gym (invented by a Chicagoan in 1920), was installed on the hotel’s fifth floor rooftop last month. Market attendees can play, lay and sway in the dome.
Organized by West Town vintage shop Dovetail owner Julie Ghatan, the free market is set for 5-10:30 p.m. Thursday at the hotel, 311 N. Morgan St.
Event goers can enjoy open air night shopping with Chicago skyline view, plus specialty cocktails and music from DJ Ben Fasman.
Ghatan said the market “aims to maximize summer vibes.”
“Think Morrocan, without the scent of wafting spices, nor the mint tea, but in Chicago,” Ghatan said.
The participating 20 local vendors include Britt Von Decker, Bien À Vous Studio, Kim Jones Jewelry, stephXstitch, Neighborly, NYET JEWELRY, Morgan Reed, Erin L. Burke Designs, Pure Principles, Milk Handmade, GRANDMONT STREET, Ruth + Rhoda, Comercio Popular, Bethany Mabee Art, {blade + bloom}, Eye of the Sun, Cities in Dust, Beltshazzar Jewels, Jyoti by Joan and Mickey Alice Kwapis.
While the vendors are the main event at Night Market on Prairie, it’s worth a look to check out the rooftop’s landscaping, which showcases plants and grasses native to Illinois.
