CHICAGO — The city’s beaches could have dangerously high waves through Wednesday, the National Weather Service is warning.
Tall waves are expected along the lakefront, making for dangerous swimming conditions, according to a beach hazards statement from the National Weather Service. Waves could be 3-5 feet tall Monday and reach up to 10 feet tall Tuesday through Wednesday morning.
Strong rip currents and structural currents — which form along objects that go into the water — are also expected.
“Life-threatening waves and currents are expected at the beaches,” according to the National Weather Service. “People visiting the beaches should stay out of the water.”
Swim advisories were in place at a number of beaches, including Montrose and South Shore, as of Monday morning.
