LOGAN SQUARE — A restaurant with a “high roller casino culture” theme is coming to a booming stretch of Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square.
The owners of Old Town sports bar The Vig are behind the restaurant at 2427 N. Milwaukee Ave. Eater was first to report the news.
Called The Whale, the restaurant is inspired by the “lavish lifestyle of the 40s and 50s world wide ‘high roller’ casino culture,” according to its Facebook page.
The owners also put up a website, where they define a whale as a “gambler who consistently wagers large amounts of money.”
“WHALES often receive lavish ‘comps’ from casinos to lure them onto the gambling floors, such as free private jet transfers, limousines, and use of the casinos’ best suites talking about high stakes gambling,” the website reads.
Owner Ryan Marks told Eater The Whale won’t be a sports bar like The Vig.
Marks was reached, but declined to comment, writing, “I have no information at this time. …Please check back in December” in an email response.
Once it opens, The Whale will be the latest establishment to join an ever-changing stretch of Milwaukee Avenue.
Situated across the street is the newly-opened boozy Taco Bell. Cocktail bars Estereo, Deadbolt, Pink Squirrel and ramen joint Furious Spoon have all opened on the stretch in recent years. Plus, the historic Hollander building was just sold to a developer who’s planning to redevelop both the building and the site next to it.
