LINCOLN SQUARE — A burglar climbed through the bathroom window of a Lincoln Square apartment this week, making off with a resident’s laptop.

The break-in at the building in the 4400 block of North Hamilton Avenue happened around 8:30 a.m. Aug. 9, said Ronald Westbrooks, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The woman who lives in the first-floor apartment came home at 7:50 p.m. that day. She told Block Club she spotted shampoo bottles on her rug and later realized somebody had been inside.

Her bathroom window was missing its screen and her laptop was gone, she said.

There have been several other break-ins in the area. On July 18, police sent an alert warning of four residential burglaries in the area, including one just a few blocks east of the Aug. 9 break-in.

The July burglaries happened in the:

  • 4400 Block of North Wolcott Avenue on July 13 around 7:15 a.m.
  • 4200 Block of North Lincoln Avenue on July 13 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • 4600 Block of North Rockwell Street on July 13 around 11 a.m.
  • 4500 Block of North Greenview Avenue on July 13 around 12 p.m.

In the July burglaries, police said whoever got into the homes did so by force or through an unlocked door.

Anyone with information regarding these burglaries can contact Area North detectives at 312-744-8263.
