NORWOOD PARK — Bike 45 Chicago’s second group ride this year will feature a tour of the Northwest Side’s ice cream shops and art displays.

“We will hopefully have some hot weather and cold ice cream,” said Justyna Frank, one of Bike 45’s organizers.

Cyclists should assemble at the Ed Paschke Art Center, 5415 W. Higgins Ave., at 10 a.m. Saturday. The event is free but those joining the ride are advised to bring a bicycle lock and money to use at the ice cream shops.

“We’re starting at the art center, and the first ice cream shop is Chelitas Homemade Ice Cream,” Frank said. “Then we’re going to see some public art and stop at the Chocolate Shoppe at 5337 W. Devon Ave. They’re being impacted by the construction in downtown Edgebrook, so we want to give them some love.”

The 15-mile ride will stop at some murals and other ice cream shops before ending at the National Veterans Art Museum, 4041 N. Milwaukee Ave., which is across the street from Josie’s Frozen Yogurt in the Six Corners shopping district.

Helmets are not required, but are recommended. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Back in July, Bike 45 kicked of this year’s riding series with a Tour de Taco that showcased locally-owned taco joints and the North Branch Trail Extension.

“The taco ride was super fun, we had a lot of participation so hopefully this one will be equally as fun,” said Frank. “The next ride we’re doing in September is probably going to be a beer themed ride.”
