NORTH CENTER — An early childcare center is collecting back-to-school supplies for Chicago Public Schools.
“The way it’s set up for us, it’s a competition in each of our rooms,” said Davora Sides, one of the owners of Children’s Lighthouse of Chicago-North Center.
“So whichever room collects the most school supplies wins, and whoever wins, we’ll do something cool for them.”
Sides said those who want to donate back-to-school supplies can drop them off at 2600 West Irving Park Road through Tuesday, Aug. 7. All school supplies, including notebooks, pencils, crayons, paper, binders and folders, are greatly appreciated.
“Although the the number one item we need is backpacks,” Sides said.
Texas-based Children’s Lighthouse has 49 centers across the country offering educational childcare for infants and children through 5 years old.
“This is the first year we’ve done this is a franchise-wide drive,” she said. “All across the country we’re collecting school supplies. Our location is giving what we collect to the Chicago Public School system.”
