WICKER PARK — An armed man walked into a Wicker Park pawn shop on Wednesday night and forced an employee to go to the back of the store while he stole “several gold chains,” police said.
The robbery happened just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 1400 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to Officer Jennifer Byrk, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.
Bryk said the man walked into the business, pulled out a black handgun and told an employee to go to the back of the store. The employee heard glass breaking as the man took gold chains that were displayed for sale, she said.
Witnesses said they saw police and detectives gathered outside Cash America, 1441 N. Milwaukee Ave., shortly after the incident happened.
At the store Thursday, an employee declined to comment. A spokeswoman for the Texas-based chain said no one was injured.
“All of our employees are okay and we are cooperating with the police,” she said.
The robber was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black gym shoes, Bryk said. No further information such as race, age, height or weight was given in the report.
The man ran south on Milwaukee Avenue after stealing the chains, police said. Area North detectives are investigating.
