WEST RIDGE — A shootout was reported near two schools in West Ridge early Wednesday evening and one man’s home was damaged by the gunfire.

Multiple shots were fired around 6 p.m. in the 5600 block of North Virginia Avenue, said police spokesperson Laura Amezaga. A 79-year-old man told police he found a crack in his window and damage to his house’s downspout after hearing the gunfire, she said.

After speaking to witnesses police say it appears a man with a gun got out of a dark colored vehicle and began firing westbound through [an alley] on the block. A second man, also armed with a gun who was a passenger of a silver truck, began firing his gun “eastbound through [the] alley” at the other man and vehicle.

“Gun casings were recovered at location,”Amzaga said.

No one was injured in the incident, police said.

Residents also reported hearing the gunshots.

The gunfire happened just blocks away from Northside College Preparatory High School, 5501 N. Kedzie Ave., Jamieson Elementary School, 5650 N. Mozart St., and the North Shore Channel Trail.

No one is in custody and Area North detectives are investigating.
