DOWNTOWN — Protesters plan to close off Lake Shore Drive before marching to Wrigley Field this week.
The protest will be held Thursday, Aug. 2. Rev. Gregory Livingston, who is organizing the protest, said community groups were coming together to shut down the Drive and participate in the march.
“Chicago’s City Hall and the powers that be listen to the upset cries and complaints of the well-to-do and ignore the disadvantaged and challenged,” Livingston said. “So we must go where the cries of the suffering can be heard.”
Among those groups is Livingston’s Coalition for a New Chicago and the Violence Interrupters, led by executive director Tio Hardiman, an anti-violence activist.
“It’s time to redistribute the pain and agony of no economic development on the South and West sides to the North Side,” Hardiman said.
The announcement of the protest comes just weeks after Rev. Michael Pfleger led a peaceful shutdown of the Dan Ryan Expressway. That march was organized to protest violence in parts of the South and West sides.
