BUCKTOWN — After three men were charged in two separate Friday carjackings — including one partially caught on video in Bucktown — a group of Bucktown neighbors went to bond court on Sunday to show their support for the victims.
“Myself and other neighborhood volunteers in the [neighborhood] watch were ecstatic that the alleged perpetrators were held without bond,” said Steve Jensen, an administrator for an online group where the video of the Bucktown carjacking was first shared.
The first carjacking happened at 3:15 a.m. Friday in the 5100 block of South Cornell in Hyde Park, police said.
The second happened at 9:10 a.m. Friday in the 1700 block of North Wolcott in Bucktown.
Dwayne Liberty, 21, Tyran Carter, 26, and Terronde Gordon, 20, were arrested at about 12:45 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of West 97th Street, police said.
According to the Tribune, only Carter, one of the three men who appeared before Associate Judge Mary C. Marubio on Sunday, was accused of participating in both Friday carjackings.
Marubio approved the prosecution’s request to hold all three men without bail, calling them a threat to the community, the Tribune reported.
On Friday afternoon, police said the men were seen running east on 97th Street after fleeing a hit-and-run accident involving one of the stolen vehicles. A GPS system in one of the stolen cars enabled police to track the men.
The Bucktown carjacking was partially captured by a surveillance camera. On Sunday, prosecutors said a 33-year-old man and his pregnant wife were about to enter their Range Rover, when Carter, Gordon and Liberty are alleged to have gotten out of a Prius stolen earlier in the day in Hyde Park from an Uber driver. The Bucktown man’s wife — who is 8 months pregnant — was ordered to the ground, prosecutors said.
On Friday, the couple who were carjacked declined to comment to Block Club Chicago.

In the one-minute video posted on YouTube, three men jump out of a Toyota Prius in an alley, one at a time, each with a gun pointed.
They run to somewhere out of view from the camera, and one of the men returns about 45 seconds later with a shopping bag in his hand.
The second man comes back into view holding belongings he was not carrying seconds earlier.
The third man does not reappear in the video.
Police said a man was taking out the garbage while a woman was sitting in their 2018 Range Rover. The woman was driving out of the family’s garage as the carjackers’ vehicle showed up in the alley, police said.
Liberty, of the 2500 block of East 98th Street, was charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm and two felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm, police said.
Carter, of the 8200 block of South East End Avenue, was charged with felony aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm and three felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm, police said.
Gordon, of the 8000 block of South Aberdeen Street, was charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking with an firearm and two felony counts of armed robbery, police said.
Liberty, Carter and Gordon are convicted felons, according to police.
