EAST HUMBOLDT PARK — More than a dozen cars parked on a residential block in East Humboldt Park were damaged — their side mirrors ripped off — in a vandalism spree early Sunday, police said.

Matthew Iammarino, 26, of south suburban Palos Park, went on the spree around 12:50 a.m. Sunday in the 2500 block of West Iowa Street, police said. Iammarino kicked and broke side mirrors off of 13 parked cars, according to Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Police arrested Iammarino in the 2300 block of West Chicago Avenue. The 26-year-old was charged with thirteen misdemeanor counts of criminal damage to property, Tannehill said.

Residents on Facebook said they woke up to find their mirrors and their neighbors’ mirrors strewn about the street.

One of them shared video footage of the incident, which clearly shows a man ripping off a side mirror and tossing it into a nearby yard. One neighbor said the man appeared to be intoxicated.

Another resident wrote: “This purposeless act of vandalism upsets me the most.”
