WICKER PARK — A 37-year-old man who was shot in the leg in Wicker Park early Sunday was “not the intended target,” Ald. Joe Moreno (1st) told constituents on Facebook.

“The victim was not associated with anyone involved in the altercation and was only exiting an establishment in the area,” Moreno posted to Facebook Monday.

The man who was shot was walking in the 1500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue around 2:15 a.m. Sunday when witnesses said a gun went off during a street fight between 5-8 guys.

Moreno said he was told by police that the victim lives in Garfield Ridge.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition. He told police he did not see where the shots came from or see the shooter “as there was a large altercation in the street.”

Police could not confirm which bar the man had been leaving when he was shot. The block is home to several bars.
