La Bodega del Barrio is making ice cream in churro cones for the summer. [Kelly Bauer/Block Club Chicago]

RIVER NORTH — La Bodega is serving up extravagant soft serve with a twist — you can skip the boring ol’ wafer cone and get your ice cream in a churro.

Yes, it has ice cream cones made out of churros.

La Bodega is a small store built into the side of Mexican restaurant Barrio, 65 W. Kinzie St. It also serves up more traditional churros with special toppings, like Fruity Pebbles, alongside coffee and tacos.

The churro cones cost $11 and come with either vanilla bean, chocolate or swirl soft serve. You can add your pick of three toppings (or more for $1 extra each), with the options including salted chocolate pretzels, brownie pieces, chili pineapple and gummy bears.

La Bodega also has two types of edible glitter — gold stardust and unicorn stardust — if you need something sparkly for your soft serve.
