CHICAGO — Pedestrians and bicyclists will travel side by side but on separate paths along the lakefront trail under new plans for the paths in Edgewater.
The lakefront trail will be expanded to have separate lanes for bicyclists and walkers, with construction between Ardmore and Berwyn beginning this week, according to a newsletter from Ald. Harry Osterman (48th). A concrete walkway north of Foster and along Foster Beach has already been finished.
Walkers can go along the lakefront trail during construction and bicyclists can ride along Kenmore and Winthrop then head east at Foster or Argyle to get back onto the trail, according to Osterman.
The Park District had originally proposed splitting walkers and bicyclists by having a pedestrian walkway go down the field between Bryn Mawr and Berwyn, but Osterman opposed that plan.
