CHICAGO — Police have released photos of a man they say pepper sprayed an elderly woman in Uptown.

At 3:30 p.m. May 8, a man walked up to a woman as she was getting out of her car in the 4700 block of North Winthrop Avenue, according to a Chicago Police community alert. The man asked the woman for directions, then used pepper spray on her face and grabbed her purse.

Later, the man used the woman’s credit card at a gas station, police said. He was seen getting out of a black car, which was possibly a Dodge Avenger.

The man ran away afterward, police said. He was described as 40-45 years old, black, 6 feet to 6-foot-3 and slender. He wore a tan shirt, dark tan pants, white gym shoes and a white hat.

The incident happened May 8, but photos were released Tuesday night.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call police at 312-744-8263.
