WICKER PARK— Jared Leto ate lunch at Big Star in Wicker Park on Thursday, much to the delight of a fan who says she spotted the actor and musician enjoying tacos by himself.
Sitting at the far west part of the patio near the sidewalk where patrons often go to smoke, Leto was alone, according to resident Mary Therese McKenna, who was also eating by herself a few tables away.
Leto was wearing white sweat pants with “Jared” down the full length of his leg and a T-shirt with “America” upside down, McKenna said.
“I was starstruck,” said McKenna, who is a big fan of Leto’s work.
McKenna only had 2-percent battery on her phone and couldn’t snap a photo, plus she was too shy to approach Leto, who seemed busy and was on the phone the whole time.
One diner nearby though was “snapping photos on the sly,” McKenna said.
“It was almost as no one knew he was there, I was sitting with my heart racing… I was taken back by this major movie star in a restaurant all by himself and no one said a word to him,” she said.
At least one other person noticed Leto.
“So, today I saw Jared Leto at Big Star for lunch this afternoon. He was…. pretty,” tweeted Jenny Baumgartner, who followed up with a second tweet, “And seemed to enjoy the tacos just fine.”
Leto is in Chicago to perform at Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island Friday with his band Thirty Seconds To Mars.
