CHICAGO — A 12-year-old girl was killed and a man was wounded in a shooting in Garfield Park late Thursday.
At 11:20 p.m., the two were outside at a gathering in the 4200 block of West Wilcox Street when the man, 36, heard shots, police said.
The girl was shot in her neck while the man was shot in his leg, police said. They were taken to Stroger Hospital.
The girl was pronounced dead at the hospital. The man’s condition stabilized.
The two were not the intended targets of the shooting, a police source said, and witnesses said they saw two people firing shots near the scene of the fatal shooting.
Officials think the girl was a relative of the wounded man.
No one was in custody.
