The busy stretch of Stony Island was shut down for the emergency crews.
SOUTH SHORE — Police officers and firefighters temporarily blocked traffic along the 7500 block of South Stony Island Avenue in front of Jackson Park Hospital in response to a damaged gas main.
A call came in at 11:09 a.m. about a potential gas main issue, Chicago police officer Jennifer Bryk said.
Traffic is currently blocked only along South Stony Island Avenue both northbound and southbound. But drivers are still moving steadily down 75th Street and 76th Street.
The competition aims to get neighbors in the fall spirit ahead of the 36th annual Apple Fest, which runs through Sunday along Lincoln Avenue.
