GAGE PARK — The 14th Ward’s aldermanic office is now open.

Ald. Jeylú Gutiérrez’s new office, 3124 W. 59th St. in Gage Park, opened Tuesday. The alderwoman had been temporarily working out of a shared office at 4374 S. Archer Ave. in Archer Heights with Cook County Commissioner Alma Anaya and State Rep. Aarón Ortíz since taking office in May, she said.

Gutiérrez handedly won the 14th Ward seat earlier this year, becoming the first new leader of the ward since 1969 and the first Latina leader to represent the Latino-majority ward. Gutiérrez replaced indicted former Ald. Ed Burke, who left City Council after 54 years.

There will be a grand opening and ribbon-cutting 4-7 p.m. Friday at the new 14th Ward office with food, music, a resource fair and a meet-and-greet with neighbors, Gutiérrez said.

The office is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Gutiérrez said she’ll eventually keep it open later one night a week and open it one Saturday a month for constituents who can’t come during regular weekday hours.

Gutiérrez said she’s also planning satellite ward hours in other parts of the community such as in churches and schools.

“We’re doing things different. It’s a new day in the ward after 50 years,” she told Block Club. “It’s really important for constituents to have a seat at the table.”
