PILSEN — As pools across the city welcome swimmers for the summer season, a Pilsen pool remains closed because of a maintenance issue, the Chicago Park District said.
The outdoor pool at Dvorak Park, 1119 W. Cullerton St., hasn’t opened yet because the Park District is waiting for a filter to be delivered, Park District spokesperson Michele Lemons said. Officials said they expect the piece to arrive this week and the pool to open next week.
In the meantime, Dvorak Park’s splash pad sprinklers are working, according to the Dvorak Park’s Advisory Council. Pilsen’s other pool at Harrison Park, 1824 S. Wood St., is also open.
Most pools across the city opened last week. Last season’s lifeguard shortage forced the district to delay pool openings and close down parts of beaches as the park district reassigned staff.
Expanded training, fee waivers, signing bonuses and other incentives offered by the park district helped them hire more than 300 lifeguards to staff pools and beaches this season, officials said.
